of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University.

Our department is engaged in education and cutting-edge research in nuclear engineering, which deals with the production and application of energy released from nuclear reactions; fusion and plasma engineering, which deals with the realization of nuclear fusion power generation and the application of the plasma derived from it; and radiation engineering, which deals with the measurement and application of radiation.
Nuclear energy is the most realistic solution to the depletion of fossil fuels and global environmental issues. Its role as a national energy security and future strategic industry is growing, especially in Korea, which is largely dependent on imported energy resources. Meanwhile, unexplored nuclear fusion energy is expected to be the ultimate energy source for a clean and sustainable future.
In addition, the advanced science and technology developed in nuclear engineering, such as plasma, neutrons, radiation, and laser beams, enable the acquisition of large-scale complex systems such as nuclear power plants, accelerators, and fusion devices, which are symbols of national scientific and technological power, and also provide core technologies that form the basis of future industries and environmental industries related to information technology, biotechnology, and nanotechnology (IT, BT, NT), which are crucial in the 21st century.
The Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University aims to comprehensively cultivate core technologies and research capabilities and train high-level professionals to ensure the long-term sustainable supply of national energy sources and consolidate its position as a nuclear energy exporting nation.
Nuclear engineering is a science and technology of great complexity on a large scale. Our department is committed to strengthening its research capabilities in core technologies and taking on the challenge of unexplored areas of science and technology, focusing on creative research and development, so that it can achieve international competitiveness through world-class research and development and play a leading role in the domestic academic community.
We appreciate your continued support and interest in our department's educational and research activities for the sustainable use and development of nuclear energy and technology.

A greeting from the department head
